During a career spanning more than two decades up until their Farewell Tour in 2003,
Alabama, (Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, Jeff Cook and Mark Herndon) received over 150
industry awards. In addition to this, Alabama was named "Artist of the Decade" by
The Academy of Country Music in 1989, and "Country Group of the Century" by the
Recording Industry Association of America in 1999.
While Randy Owen humbly confesses that there was a lot of luck involved in Alabama's
very successful rise to fame, he also says "following our hearts and our feelings
we did it all just by being ourselves".
